Social Security Scam
"Your Social Security number has been suspended."
How this scam works
An automated or live caller says your Social Security number has been 'suspended' due to suspicious activity or a crime, and asks you to confirm your SSN or pay to reactivate it.
🚩 Red flags
- •Claims your SSN is suspended or blocked (this never happens)
- •Asks you to 'confirm' your full Social Security number
- •Robocall that asks you to press 1 to speak to an officer
- •Threatens that your benefits or assets will be frozen
✅ What to do
Hang up. The Social Security Administration will never suspend your number or call to threaten you. Don't confirm any personal details.
